SnapIQ ("we", "us", or "our") operates the SnapIQ Chrome extension and website (collectively, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices when you use SnapIQ.
1. Overview
SnapIQ lets you select a region of your screen and receive an AI-powered explanation. We only process data needed to provide that feature, manage your account, and enforce usage limits on your plan.
2. Information We Collect
Account information
If you sign in with Google, we receive and store:
- Email address
- Display name
- Profile picture URL
- A unique account identifier
Authentication is handled by Supabase using Google OAuth. We do not receive or store your Google password.
Screen captures
When you use the Chrome extension to capture a screen region, the selected portion of your visible browser tab is captured locally in your browser. Only the cropped image you select is sent to our servers for AI analysis. We do not capture your full screen, record your browsing activity, or access pages you have not actively selected for capture.
Usage data
For signed-in users, we store:
- Subscription plan (free, pro monthly, or pro annual)
- Number of captures used against your plan limit
- Billing-related identifiers if you subscribe to a paid plan
Extension storage
The Chrome extension stores your authentication token and email address locally using Chrome's storage.sync API so you remain signed in across browser sessions.
Technical logs
Our servers may record basic technical logs (such as error messages and request metadata) to operate and improve the Service. These logs are not used to build advertising profiles.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Authenticate you and maintain your account
- Process screen captures through our AI analysis pipeline
- Return explanations to you in the extension
- Track and enforce capture limits based on your plan
- Process subscriptions and payments for paid plans
- Respond to support requests and protect against abuse
4. Chrome Extension Permissions
The SnapIQ extension requests the following permissions:
- activeTab — to capture the visible content of the tab you are using when you start a capture
- scripting — to inject the SnapIQ panel and selection overlay into the active page
- storage — to save your sign-in token and preferences locally
- Host access — required so the extension can run on web pages where you choose to use SnapIQ
We do not sell your data, read your emails, access your files, or monitor your browsing history beyond what is needed to provide the capture feature when you explicitly use it.
5. Third-Party Services
We use trusted third-party providers to operate SnapIQ:
- Google Sign-In — for authentication (Google Privacy Policy)
- Supabase — for authentication and account database storage (Supabase Privacy Policy)
- Google Gemini — to analyze captured screen images and generate explanations (Google Privacy Policy)
- Dodo Payments — to process subscription payments when you upgrade to a paid plan
Screen images are transmitted to our servers and forwarded to Google Gemini for processing. We do not permanently store captured images on our servers after analysis is complete.
6. Data Retention
- Screen captures — processed in real time and not retained on our servers after the AI response is returned
- Account data — kept while your account is active
- Extension tokens — stored locally in your browser until you sign out or uninstall the extension
7. Data Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect data in transit and at rest, including HTTPS encryption for API communication and secure token-based authentication. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Your Choices
You can:
- Use SnapIQ without signing in (with limited functionality)
- Sign out of the extension at any time, which removes locally stored tokens
- Uninstall the Chrome extension to remove all locally stored extension data
- Request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us
9. Children's Privacy
SnapIQ is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
10. International Users
Your information may be processed in countries where our service providers operate, including the United States. By using SnapIQ, you consent to this transfer and processing.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised policy on this page and update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
12. Contact Us
If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or wish to exercise your privacy rights, please contact us.
